If you are interested in the recently announced Solar Rooftop Subsidy Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Suryoday Yojana, there are many aspects that you should know. In this article, we are discussing the Required Area for Solar Rooftop Installation under the Suryoday Yojana.
As you know, the scheme involves installation of Rooftop Solar System, also known as RTS. This simply means you need the required space on your roof so that the system can be installed.
Required Area for Suryoday Yojana Rooftop Solar
To clear all your doubts regarding how much rooftop area is required for solar rooftop installation, we will do comprehensive discussion in this Article.
Deciding the Capacity of the Plant
The very first thing is to decide the Capacity of the Solar Rooftop plant. To enjoy the subsidy benefit, do not go for capacity beyond 10kW.
Official Statement:
It is clearly stated on the National Portal of Solar Rooftop that 1 kW rooftop system requires 10 sq. meters of shadow free area.
How to Calculate the Area of your Roof?
You need a measuring tape to measure the length and breadth of your rooftop area. Make sure you only measure vacant area. If some part of your rooftop area has water tanks or other stuff that can’t be relocated for the Rooftop Solar system installation, measure accordingly.
Once you have the length and the breadth (in meters), use this formula to calculate the Area:
Length * Breadth = Area in Square Meters.
For example if the length is 20 Meters and Breadth is 6 Meters the area becomes 120 Square Meters, which as per the table above is enough for Solar rooftop plant upto 10 kW.
Capacity Wise Required Rooftop Area for Solar System
Depending on the Capacity of the plant you are planning to install under the scheme, you can calculate the required area.
Rooftop Solar System Capacity | Estimated Required Area |
1 kW | 10 sq. meters |
2 kW | 20 sq. meters |
3 kW | 30 sq. meters |
4 kW | 40 sq. meters |
5 kW | 50 sq. meters |
6 kW | 60 sq. meters |
7 kW | 70 sq. meters |
8 kW | 80 sq. meters |
9 kW | 90 sq. meters |
10 kW | 100 sq. meters |
