RTS is a short form for Rooftop Solar. The RTS is a arrangement of Solar panels along with other relevant equipment. The complete system is called RTS or Rooftop Solar System.

Technically speaking, a Rooftop Solar system consists of solar panels mounted on the rooftop. The components of RTS are Solar Panels, Mounting Systems, Solar Inverters, Cables and other electrical accessories.

The Rooftop mounted Solar systems can be installed on the Residential or Commercial building.

Types of RTS , Rooftop Solar Systems

There are basically three types of Rooftop Solar Systems:

  • On grid RTS
  • Off Grid RTS
  • Hybrid RTS

On-Grid Rooftop Solar :

This On-Grid Rooftop Solar System can only generate power when electricity grid is available. This simply means it will not work in the absence of electricity. Many people wonder what is the point of installing rooftop solar when it won’t work without electricity?

The motive of On Grid Rooftop solar is to significantly reduce the electricity bill. If your On Grid RTS generates excess electricity, that can be sent back to the grid.

The record of how much electricity has been sent from your On-Grid RTS to Grid is kept using a netmeter. You will be paid for supplying the electricity. Usually this payment is not in cash form or transferred to bank account, this payment is deducted from your electricity bill.

If your electricity bill is Rs. 1500 and you have generated electricity worth 1700 Rs using your On Grid RTS, your electricity bill will be waived off plus you will have additional credit of Rs. 200 for the next month.

This is the main benefit of On-Grid Rooftop Solar, to minimise the electricity bill significantly.

Off-Grid Rooftop Solar :

Off-Grid rooftop solar is opposite entirely on-grid system. In this case, the Solar system is not connected to a Grid. Off-Grid RTS requires installation of multiple batteries to store the electricity.

This system generates electricity throughout the day and provides power to your appliances and saves additional generated electricity in batteries. In the night-time, the system utilises the power from the batteries to fulfil your requirements.

Off-Grid RTS if compared with On-Grid RTS is very expensive and not very environment friendly. Also, there is no option to sell additional generated electricity to electricity board as it is not connected to the Grid.

Hybrid Rooftop Solar

Hybrid Rooftop Solar as the name suggests is a combination of On-Grid and Off-Grid RTS.

So Far we know that :

  1. On Grid RTS can’t use batteries
  2. Off Grid RTS can’t send extra electricity to Grid

The Hybrid Rooftop Solar does both of things. This is how this system works:

When the system starts working in the morning (on Sunny Day), it provides electricity to the consumer for usage. The spare electricity is then stored in Batteries. Now, when the batteries are also full and system is still generating, it can send that additional generated electricity to the Grid.
